Looking elegant and sophisticated can be quite simple. In today’s post, I’ll share 7 tips on how to elevate your style and wardrobe.
1. Understand and know your style.
There’s nothing less elegant than wearing something that you don’t like or don’t feel comfortable wearing. How do you find your style? Search for inspirations, save pictures you like, have a board on Pinterest of outfits that you love. Shop with a purpose: create a shopping list instead of going shopping without a clue of what you actually need. If you can afford it, hire a personal stylist to help you with closet cleaning.
2. Buy clothes that fit your body.
Don’t buy a pair of jeans two sizes smaller because you want to lose weight, and don’t buy a pair of jeans two sizes bigger because you want to hide something that you don’t like. Search for pieces that make you look good and that are flattering on your shape. Don’t look good in a pair of jeans? Buy tailored pants or skirts. There are no rules about what types of clothing you have to have in your closet!
3. Understand and appreciate the importance of the fabric.
A lot of times we don’t think about the fabric, but that’s actually a very important decision. Natural fabrics like cotton, linen, silk, leather, and wool make the outfit more sophisticated. Price doesn’t necessarily determine quality; there are a lot of budget-friendly options out there.
4. Go for timeless pieces.
If you think it’s hard for you to wear the latest trends, just stick with the classics. There’s nothing classier than a woman wearing a pair of tailored pants, a white button-down shirt, black heels, and a classic handbag.
5. Make the colors work for you.
If you know your color palette, that’s great! Use that to your favor. If you don’t, here are some tips:
Monochromatic and ton sur ton outfits make you look more elegant;
Invest in lighter and neutral colors like white, gray, beige, they also make your style elevated.
6. The Third-Piece Rule.
I have a post talking about this because it’s one of my favorites fashion tricks. In a nutshell, when you wear a blazer, cardigan, vest, jacket, your silhouette will look elongated. For instance, if you’re going out with a pair of jeans and a tee, add a blazer and you’ll instantly give your look a level of sophistication!

7. Take it easy on the makeup.
It’s much better to take care of your skin so you can use less makeup, instead of having a ton of product on your face. Well-cared-for skin is worth a pound of makeup.
Taking care of your hair is also very important. Have a quick routine to groom it in the morning or before you go to work. Once you get the hang of it, it will be easier.
