How to Start Fresh and Reset Your Goals for the New Year

2025 is upon us, and now, is the perfect time to hit the reset button and embrace fresh beginnings. This is an opportunity to reflect on the past, learn from experiences, and set new intentions for the months ahead. With a hopeful heart and a clear vision, the New Year becomes a canvas, ready for us to paint with vibrant dreams and aspirations.

I love this time of year! I love setting realistic goals and planning to know exactly what to do to achieve them in the new year.

Below I'm sharing my reset list that I go through before ringing in the new year!

Planning, setting goals, Writing down goals.

  1. REFLECT

This is a new practice I began last year, and it has significantly helped me recognize my achievements. Consider this step as a gratitude exercise, allowing you to pinpoint learning opportunities for the future. I make a list of my key accomplishments and the memorable experiences I had throughout the year. I suggest browsing through your photos and social media to uncover moments you may have overlooked—trust me, we often forget significant events that took place.

    1. Review your achievements: List the goals you set at the start of the year. Celebrate the ones you've achieved, no matter how small, and acknowledge the effort and dedication it took to reach them.

    2. Acknowledge challenges: Reflect on the obstacles you faced and how you overcame them. Consider what these experiences taught you and how they contributed to your resilience and character development.

    3. Express gratitude: Think about the people who supported you throughout the year and the moments that brought you joy. Expressing gratitude can enhance your well-being and strengthen your relationships.

    4. Identify lessons learned: Focus on the lessons you've learned through various experiences. How have these lessons shaped your perspective or influenced your decisions moving forward?

    5. Visualize the future: Consider how your reflections will inform your goals for the upcoming year. What new aspirations do you have, and what steps will you take to achieve them?

  2. DECLUTTER

This step is one of my favorites! I list all areas in my home I want to declutter. This step can take time, so I usually start decluttering around Thanksgiving.

I set aside things to donate, throw away, or put away. I find it helpful to tackle one room or area at a time, so I don't get overwhelmed. I'll often start with a small space, like a closet or a drawer, to build momentum. As I go through each item, I ask myself if it serves a purpose or brings joy. If not, it's time to let it go.

To keep things organized, I use three labeled bins: one for donations, one for items to discard, and one for things to keep but store elsewhere. This visual sorting method makes the process much more efficient.

Once I've finished a space, I take a moment to enjoy the calm and order I've created. It's amazing how a decluttered space can bring such a sense of peace and clarity.

  3. SET GOALS

Here are some steps to help you set meaningful and achievable goals:

    1. Reflect on the Past Year: Take some time to assess your accomplishments, challenges, and growth over the past year. Consider what worked well and what could be improved. This reflection will provide valuable insights for setting goals that align with your aspirations.

    2. Identify Your Priorities: Determine what areas of your life you want to focus on, such as personal development, career, health, relationships, or hobbies. Prioritizing these areas will help you create a balanced set of goals.

    3. Set SMART Goals: Make sure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework will increase your chances of success by providing clarity and focus.

    4. Break Down Larger Goals: Divide bigger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This will make them feel less overwhelming and allow you to track your progress more effectively.

    5. Create a Plan of Action: Outline the steps needed to achieve each goal. Consider any resources, support, or skills you might need, and set deadlines for completing each step.

    6. Stay Flexible: Life is unpredictable, so be prepared to adjust your goals as needed. Flexibility will help you stay motivated and resilient in the face of challenges.

    7. Celebrate Your Achievements: Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Recognizing your accomplishments will boost your confidence and motivate you to keep moving forward.

  4. Everything Shower + Self-Care Day!

“The way you spend New Year's Eve is the way you're going to spend the rest of the year” I saw this quote 20 years ago on an episode of the show “The OC” and it stuck with me. Since then, I've made it a tradition to welcome each new year with a day dedicated entirely to self-care and rejuvenation, ensuring I'm setting the tone for the months ahead. My Everything Shower ritual has become an integral part of this day. I start with a luxurious shampoo and deep conditioning treatment, followed by an invigorating body scrub that leaves my skin feeling refreshed and renewed.

After my shower, I continue the self-care with a nourishing face mask and a cozy robe, sipping on a cup of coffee. I take this time to reflect on the past year, setting intentions for the new one. Journaling my thoughts and aspirations, I find clarity and motivation to pursue my goals with renewed vigor.

By dedicating this time to myself, I'm reminded of the importance of self-love and care, fostering positivity and balance that I carry with me throughout the year.
