The Third-Piece rule is an easy way to make your outfit interesting, more put together, and like you put a little effort into your look.
So… what is the Third-Piece rule?
Basically, you can say that your top is your first piece and your bottom is your second piece. The third piece will be an item that will add some fun and style to your outfit. It can be a blazer, a jacket, a scarf or bandana, a statement accessory.
Pretty much anything that goes above your basic top and bottom can be considered a third piece… you have infinite options! (Note: Shoes don’t count!)
I personally love this rule and have been using it for a long time. It is my favorite styling trick to add a little something to jazz up my outfits.
I have two favorite Third-Piece items in my closet: #1 is a blazer. I LOVE to add a blazer when I’m wearing pants, skirts, shorts, dresses! It’s an easy and fast way to look chic which is why I always have a black and a white blazer to match anything in my closet.
The second favorite item is a denim jacket. It’s perfect for spring, summer, fall, or even winter to wear on top of a wool sweater, and it’s super easy to style it! Just throw it on or tie it around your waist and you’re ready to go.
