In this post, I’ll be sharing some tips that I’ve learned throughout the years to make your shopping experience better and more successful.
Use a mood board
Create your mood board by collecting images of clothing, outfits that you love, and people whose style you admire. Use this as a source of inspiration when you’re shopping, when cleaning out your closet, or simply trying to put an outfit together.
Pay attention to the commonalities between the images. You’ll probably find styles and colors that you gravitate towards.
Make a list of items you already own
It’s good to have in mind the pieces you already own. Before buying a new item, try to put together at least three outfits since you want the new piece to play well with the ones you already have in your closet.
If a piece you’re eyeing doesn’t go with anything you own, it may not be right for you, unless you’re building a new closet with a different style.
Have a wish list
It’s easier to shop when you have a list to remind yourself of what you’re actually looking for. Especially if you’re shopping during a sale, you can easily get distracted by things you don’t need just because it’s a great deal.
Know your measurements
This is a note for me because I always write my measurements down and lose them but, having this information on hand will help you shopping especially online! Use the size chart to confirm what size to get, even if you have already shopped at that website before.
If you’re shopping in a store, try your size on as well as the sizes above and below, just to make sure you’re getting the best fit. Don’t get stuck to a number/size just because you think that’s the size you should be buying. Grab the one you feel more comfortable with and the one that suits you better.
Set a budget
Having a budget you’ll help you avoid overspending. You can set a budget per year or per season.
I also like to write down what pieces I want to invest in and what pieces I get to save.
For example, I’d splurge on a blazer, a nice pair of jeans, a leather jacket, or a pair of boots and save on trendy pieces like a shacket, a floral dress, and things like that.
