In Today’s post I’ll be sharing 3 tips to have a functional, effortless and sophisticated workwear capsule wardrobe . But first, what is a Capsule Wardrobe?
The term was created in 1970 by Susan Faux, owner of Wardrobe Boutique in London.
Basically, a Capsule Wardrobe is a collection of essential pieces, usually 37 to 50 pieces, that don’t go out of style and are interchangeable among them to maximize the number of outfits that can be created. In a nutshell: every piece goes with every other piece.
The whole point of this concept is to have a practical wardrobe without excessive items of clothing.
To achieve that, you’ll need staple items in coordinating colors.
1. Clean your closet.
Having a clean closet helps you not to feel overwhelmed when you need to pick an outfit. Analyze every piece of clothing. You can use the question below:
Does it fit me?
How often do I wear the piece?
Is it in good condition?
Does it match my lifestyle and the image I want to send?
Is it flattering? Is the color flattering on me?
2. How many pieces will you need?
For a workwear wardrobe I would recommend the following number, but you can always adapt it according to your necessities.
3 bottoms
7 tops/blouses
3 dresses
2 blazers
1 cardigan
3 pairs of shoes
The great thing about the Capsule concept is that it is totally customizable, so you can add more tops or bottoms, or instead of a blazer you can add jackets or cardigans and so on.
3. Choose a Color Palette
Every piece of clothing needs to go with every other piece, so having a color palette is very important to achieve this.
See below an example of a color palette, but you have endless options, you just need to find the one that works best for you. I’m a neutral lover as you probably know, so it is easy to coordinate my wardrobe.
Shoes and accessories don’t have to be part of the Capsule
This means that you don’t need to limit your accessories number. You can combine different shoes, handbags, jewelry, hats and scarves and create a completely different look, or even use accessories to transform a workwear look into a casual or weekend outfit!
